Artist's Comments

The original vision for came whilst I was in Venice during Xmas 2004 inspired by the architecture and crowds. I then added a few details from an abandoned plan called ’neurotic vanity’ to fill out the piece. Due to the delay between planning and execution the finished version had little in common with the initial plan. I aimed for a style and mood in between Matta’s ‘The Disasters of Mysticism’ and the art collective ‘Rockgroup’ but in the end it came out nothing like either. The text is a quote from the Indonesian writer Y.B. Mangunwijaya "You might not see things yet on the surface, but underground, it's already on fire" which I thought fitted the piece quite well. The message/meaning of the art on the whole is open to interpretation due to the final version straying so much from the plan.

Wooo... absolutely catchy.
I'm getting lost looking at it , trying to find a meaning for it.
Really colorful.
One of those drowing that u need to look at for a long long time.

You DRAW these?! Traditional art is my specialty, and I cannot FOR THE LIFE OF ME guess exactly how this was produced. It's a mystery! A beautifully entrancing mystery.

This work seems so ecclectic, yet strangely purposeful... I'm hard-pressed to pull an exact meaning from it, but enjoyment I'm getting aplenty! The dazzling mixture of colors, shapes, and textures really makes this a kick to look at. I like both the tube-like effect of the majority of the picture combined with the serene night sky in the top right corner. But, somehow, that strip of spotted fur-like texture seems awfully misplaced... I can't really explain, but it just seems to interrupt the flow as my eyes are drawn around the work.

I see the world influenced by people, science and nature. They all clash together in this piece. Wonderful!

now this is what surreal drawings are all about! i can really see where u got the inspiration from.
the moon outside the aquarium made it more mysterious. great work

cheers 4 the thought out feedback. it was mainly done in pencil, i have to wear plasters to stop myself getting blisters as i probably press much harder than alot of pencil artists. i dont mind the mountain personally- i always intended this piece to be more segmented/abstract than my other works. the main thing id redo is the jellyfish but that was due to a problem with planning rather than execution on the whole.

You're not the only artists who really presses down on the pencil! I get blisters and cramps from drawing... Do "plasters" really help? Will you tell me about them?

thanks- i simplied the plan a lot as i went along however, i removed quite a bit of the symbolism and simplified the design but it still regained a slightly surreal/abstract feel luckily.

yeah just put a plaster or two (padded preferably) whereever u get the blisters. you might need a new one each day as they get worn down but they take a lot of pressure off the fingers.
